Station Scanner (QR)

The Scanner lets your team advance orders on the shop floor by scanning their QR codes with a device's camera — no clicking through the dashboard. It's the fastest way to move work forward at a station: point the camera at the order's build-sheet QR code and it updates on the spot.

Opening the Scanner

The Scanner is reached from the Scanner button in the top bar — not from the left navigation, which is why it's easy to miss. Click it to open the web scanner page.

Tip: On a phone or tablet you can use the Scanner right in the mobile browser — add TimberCloud to your home screen and keep it at the station. See the Mobile section, and Mobile Scanning for the app-side experience.

Setting up a scan

The Scanner page walks top to bottom:

  1. Pick a camera. The page lists the cameras it can find; choose the one pointed at your workpiece (usually the rear camera on a tablet).

  2. Choose an update type:

    Update typeWhat a scan does
    Update StatusSets the scanned order to a status you pick (for example Inspection or Shipped).
    Update StationMarks the scanned order as having reached a station you pick.

  3. Pick the target — the status (Update Status mode) or the station (Update Station mode) you want each scan to apply.

  4. Start scanning and hold an order's QR code in front of the camera.

The button stays disabled until you've chosen a camera and a target, with a hint telling you what's missing.

What an Update Station scan does

In Update Station mode, scanning an order marks the chosen station and every station before it complete — the same cumulative rule as the checkboxes on the tracking board — and sets the order to Completed. So if a worker scans the Finish station, TimberCloud understands Cut, Assemble, and Sand were done too.

Note: Because a station scan advances the order all the way to Completed, use it at the point in your flow where finishing that station means the piece is done and ready for inspection.

Double-scan protection

The Scanner ignores a repeat of the same code within about 3 seconds, so a QR code lingering in frame won't fire the same update twice. On-screen badges show whether the camera is ready, whether the scanner is active, how many stations are available, and when an update is in progress.

Location filtering

The Scanner respects the Location Selector at the top of the page. In Update Station mode, the stations you can choose from are filtered to the selected location (or shown across all locations when "All Locations" is chosen), so a scanner at one shop only offers that shop's stations.

Where the QR codes come from

The codes you scan are the ones printed on each order's Build Sheet. Print or display the build sheet at the station and your team can scan it to advance the order. See Build Sheet Builder to control what's on the sheet.
